What is A Full Moon?
The Full Moon is the lunar phase where the Earth is situated in between the Moon and Sun. When this occurs, the moon is fully illuminated in the night sky. According to Astrology, it is the culmination of all the work put forth during the New and Waxing (Aka: growing) phases of the lunar cycle. Honor your hard work with celebration + relaxation. Over the next two weeks as the moon melts away, use this time to retreat inwards, consider making positive changes, release the things that no longer serve and gear up for the new lunar cycle to begin again.
Full Moon Rituals (And What to Avoid)
As the high point of the lunar cycle, the day of the Full Moon is best spent basking in the glory of everything you’ve accomplished with a side helping of some R & R (it’s ok to toot your own horn once in a while). In the days that follow a Full Moon, set yourself up for success with these rituals, plus a few tips on what not to do. These things will prepare you mentally and physically as the lunar cycle comes to a close.
Meditate – Take 5-10 minutes to meditate frequently during the Full and Waning Moon cycle. Closing your eyes, focus on the sound of your breath for a few minutes. If your mind wonders, refocus your attention back onto your breathing. Then, draw your awareness to the things that no longer serve you or are no longer working. Release each thing with every exhale of breath.
Use water as a conduit to connect with the light of the Full Moon (or within a few days after) to rejuvenate your soul and cleanse your body. Write a list of things you want to let go from your life and speak them out loud with intention to release them. Create this list from a place of gratitude because even though things didn’t work out, they served as lessons and valuable information that will help you when you try again during New Moon. For example, “thank you * x, y & z* for being in my life – it’s no longer working and you are free to move on,” or “Thank you for helping me learn but I’m ready to try something new.”
Refrain from overworking yourself into exhaustion. Delay big life decisions while heightened emotions bubble to the surface during the Full Moon. It’s best to put them on ice and give them some thought before acting on them. Avoid new projects for, at least, a few days after the full moon to rest and refuel so you are better prepared mentally and physically when it’s go time.
