Root Chakra: Muladhara
About Root Chakra
Root Chakra is the first Chakra. It’s located at the base of your spine where the first 3 vertebrae reside. It represents the foundation of growth and expansion within your life. The qualities associated with the Root Chakra include safety, grounding, physical identity and other basic, instinctual needs.
Also known as Muladhara, Mula translates to origin, root or essence and dhara translates to basis or foundation. You’ll most often see a tree symbolizing the Root Chakra. The roots must be healthy, deep and strong to offer adequate support for the rest of the tree. This Chakra is essential in the healthy function of the remaining Chakra’s above.

When Root Chakra is Blocked
Chakra’s are evolving energy sources within the subtle body. As such, they can be deficient (closed/blocked) or excessive (open). When a Chakra is deficient, not enough energy is flowing. This could express itself as feeling tired, sluggish, or listless. When too much energy is flowing, you might feel aggression, agitation and even project these feelings onto others. Here are some things to look for when Crown Chakra is out of balance.
Tendency to obsess over money. There is an inert need to control it and make it. Alternatively, you feel in constant lack that there isn’t enough of it. Overall feelings of anxiety when it comes to finances.
Fear of losing your home, family or other stable entities within your life.
There is a general lack of trust as if you are the only one you can count on. This can present itself as control issues, always needing to be the one in the drivers seat.
Difficulty being yourself around others. It may even cause anxiety. Overall, there could be a lack of self and identity.
Feeling disconnected from those around you, including people and nature. This can also manifest itself as feeling spacey and out of it (from not being grounded).
Feeling like you don’t have enough. This could present itself as hoarding and/or eating disorders.
General feelings of negativity, cynicism, greed or indecision.
Activities to Unblock Root Chakra
When Root Chakra is balanced, you’ll feel stable, relaxed and fully grounded. You will have trust in yourself, others and your current situation. Energy will flow freely giving you the drive to take care of yourself and be prosperous in many areas of life. These activities will balance & activate your Root Chakra:
Work on shifting your mindset away from lack (not having enough) towards one of abundance. Focusing on what you don’t have can be deeply frustrating. This negative cloud will manifest itself in your actions, words and thoughts. On the flip side focusing on what you do have is empowering. You will feel capable, unstoppable and optimistic. This too will manifest itself in your daily activities helping you to reach your goals and dreams.
