Don’t Ignore Self Care – It’s Powerful

Can I Afford Self Care?

You can’t afford to not practice self care. Self care is not selfish and it’s not a luxury reserved for special occasions. There is a misconception, formed over time, that self care is an indulging day at the spa, enjoying expensive massages and facials. This idea immediately places the concept of self care outside the realm of possibility for most of us on a budget, and we push it aside. Let’s take a few moments to re-evaluate what self care truly is. Everyone, even you, falls into the qualifying category.

What is Self Care?

Self care is a set of healthy habits that fill you up to be better, kinder, healthier and happier. When you take time to care for yourself, you build confidence, self-respect, adopt mindful eating, have more energy and feel more optimistic. These things are necessary to our well-being. Especially, since we tend to take care of others better than we take care of ourselves. I’m sure many of you can relate to the feeling of running on E. Ironically, it turns out you have to take care of yourself just as much as others. How can you do for yourself and others when you aren’t well? When you feel emotionally distressed, off balance, bloated, disconnected from the world around you? To put it bluntly, you can’t, and I know you don’t feel like it, either. Living life isn’t meant to feel like a chore.

What Does Self Care Look Like?

Take look at these mindful habits, broken down in to categories. Keep an open mind and take a few moments for some positive self-reflection.

Being mindful of you, can have a great impact on your life and well-being. This may mean shedding some old habits in favor of new ones. Keep in mind that shifting your mindset and replacing old habits can be difficult, so be patient with yourself! And always remember, be kind to yourself throughout this process.
