About Sacral Chakra

Sacral Chakra is the 2nd Chakra, located just below your belly button in your lower abdomen. It represents your creativity as you step out into the world forming emotional bonds with others. The qualities associated with the Sacral Chakra include joy, sexual energy, self-esteem, creativity and your relationships with those around you.

Also known as Svadhisthana, Swa translates to ‘one’s own’ and dhisthana translates to ‘seat’ or ‘abode.’ You’ll often see water represent this Chakra as it flows smoothly, embracing everything and everyone on it’s journey. This Chakra is essential to forming healthy connections with yourself and others.

When Sacral Chakra is Blocked

Chakra’s are evolving energy sources within the subtle body. As such, they can be deficient (closed/blocked) or excessive (open). When a Chakra is deficient, not enough energy is flowing. This could express itself as feeling tired, sluggish, or listless. When too much energy is flowing, you might feel aggression, agitation and even project these feelings onto others. Here are some things to look for when Crown Chakra is out of balance.

Trouble expressing your emotions to yourself and others, even so far as being guarded or closed off.

Tendency to be a drama queen. You thrive off excess dramatic emotion.

Addictive tendencies towards food, gambling, drinking, sex, shopping, drugs or other vice.

Feel a lack of creativity and loss of connection with yourself and your desires.

Sexually closed off, lacking desire and connection with others. Adversely if the Chakra is too open, you may feel hypersexual, possibly manic.

Loss of interest in your hobbies and an overall loss of self/identity. This can also manifest itself as codependency on others as you lose sight of your own identity.

General feelings of uncertainty, resistance to change, lack of authentic connection and joy.

Activities to Unblock Sacral Chakra

When Sacral Chakra is balanced, you’ll feel at ease, comfortable expressing yourself sexually and full of life to embrace the world at large. Energy will flow freely giving you the drive to take on new, exciting opportunities and connect with those around you. These activities will balance & activate your Sacral Chakra.

Connect with water in some way. Take a bath, go swimming or enjoy a long walk near a lake, river or ocean. When you drink water, be mindful and feel the cool liquid energize your body.

Meditate on the Sacral Chakra focusing on the orange sphere of energy radiating from your lower abdomen. Visualize this energy swirling at a healthy and joyous speed.

Journal using prompts for self reflection and self acceptance. This is an opportunity to recognize toxic cycles and release them. Begin to move into a new place of accepting everything about yourself and embracing these qualities/talents in daily life.

Be aware of emotions that arise in your day to day activities. Observe the thoughts, feelings and actions surrounding these encounters and ask yourself if these are healthy forms of expression/reactions.
