About Throat Chakra

Throat Chakra is the fifth Chakra, located at the level of your neck. It represents communication and expressing your truth. Other qualities associated with the Throat Chakra include listening, honesty and creative expression.

Also known as Visuddha, it can be translated to ‘especially pure.’ A healthy Throat Chakra plays a vital role in your communication with others and living a lifestyle in accordance with your truth. When you embrace your truth and speak it with kindness, you transcend to new levels of fulfillment and balance.

When Throat Chakra is Blocked

Chakra’s are evolving energy sources within the subtle body. As such, they can be deficient (closed/blocked) or excessive (open). When a Chakra is deficient, not enough energy is flowing. This could express itself as feeling tired, sluggish, or listless. When too much energy is flowing, you might feel aggression, agitation and even project these feelings onto others. Here are some things to look for when Crown Chakra is out of balance.

Being verbally aggressive and hurtful towards yourself and others

Difficulty listening to what others are saying. Also interrupting people when they speak.

Struggle to put thoughts into words and have difficulty expressing your true nature, thoughts and opinions.

Feeling anxious, shy or upset during conversations with others.

Very over-opinionated, have a tendency to lie often and gossip frequently (too open). On the flip side, if your Chakra is too closed you have difficulty finding your voice and expressing any opinion at all.

Fear criticism and judgement. This can inhibit your abilities to be yourself around other people.

Activities to Unblock Throat Chakra

When Throat Chakra is balanced, you’ll feel secure and confident expressing yourself. Energy will flow freely allowing open communication, kindness and honesty. These activities will help balance & activate your Throat Chakra:

Start a journal and use meaningful prompts to get you started. This is one of the best ways to discover, reflect and understand yourself without external influences. Between these pages you can safely express your true self.

Practice listening. Like, really listen to hear what the other person is saying, and why, and not to respond. Use your body language and attention to let them know what they have to say has meaning. Validate them and this respect will be returned.

Sing loud and proud for all to hear (or alone in your car). Express yourself creatively through song, art, music, writing, reading, painting, dancing, building a bird house….

Become aware of the way you speak to people (and yourself), your tone, and what exactly you say. Ask yourself these questions before speaking: Is it kind? Is it necessary? Is it true?

Meditate on Throat Chakra, focusing on a bright blue sphere of energy radiating from your neck. Visualize this energy moving freely within your body, clearing any blockages, and giving you the courage to be yourself.

Practice speaking out when you have an opinion, or to stand up for what you feel is right. Speak calmly with kindness, reasonable people will respect you.

Write down your hopes and dreams. This will give you direction and pinpoint what you want in life. It may even fill in gaps where words and dreams were once lost.
